Fabric Key Chain for Mother’s Day Tutorial

As mentioned the girl’s school is having a Mother’s Day stall next week and they school asks for a small amount of money to be donated or a gift to the value of $3.

Last year I made a few fabric cup cosies and fabric notepad covers that came with a pad and pen.

I thought these fabric key chains would be a great way to use up some of my scraps as well as making a great gift for the kids to buy at the stall.  So here is a little tutorial as to how I made them (sorry for the poor quality of photo’s as they are taken on my phone late last night).

I made 10 of these last night in under an 1 hour.  You will need the following to make one:

1 x fabric strip that measures 4 inches wide x 11 inches long

1 x lining strip that measures 1 inch wide x 11 inches long

1 x swivel lobster clasp with ring

To make first you need to iron the fabric strip down to look like a 1 inch thick bias tape.  Iron your fabric piece in half as pictured:

Then open it up, fold one side of the fabric to the line you just made and iron.  Repeat for the other side:

This is what you should end up with.  Oh and sorry for the daggy looking ironing board.  Really should make myself a new cover lol.

Now place your piece one lining inside one of the folds of your fabric handle:

Now to add the hardware.  Place the fabric through the ring on your swivel lobster clasp and fold in half.  Sew the ends together.  I used pinking shears to tidy the ends of the fabric but you could use a zigzag stitch to do this or just trim the ends with your scissors.

Sew the ends together. .

I used pinking shears to tidy the ends of the fabric but you could use a zigzag stitch to do this or just trim the ends with your scissors:

Now turn your fabric handle inside out so that the raw end of the handle is inside.  Pull the ring down to where the raw end is and place under the presser foot so that it is hard up against the ring and then sew across.

I sew back and forth a few times just for extra strength and durability:

And there you have it.  Ready to attach to your set of keys:

These are a great little gift not only for Mother’s Day but can also be made as a teachers gift.  Kids can also use them for their house keys as well.

So why not go through your fabric stash and wipe up a couple for your friends and family.

Pinchme product review

I just completed my first product review for Pinchme.  Have you signed up with them yet.  I found them through a post by Retro Mummy and what I like about it is it is a genuine site where you can receive products to try and review.

I have signed up to a few sites over the years that promised to provide products for you to try and give feedback only to be bombarded with online survey’s which I got very tired of very quickly.

My next product is the Dutch Chocolate Drink from Sustagen which I have used the vanilla over the years while having my babies.

So why not head on over and sign up today.

Christening gift for a friend

A dear friend of mine’s baby girl was christened on the weekend so I can finally show you the pictures of the gift I made specially for her a little while ago.  Its a basket weave crochet blanket with fabric binding which I sewed on by hand.

Last week I decided that I wanted to include a beanie and ballet slipper set as well.

I remembered that she loved butterflies so decided to put an appliqué on the beanie.

Can’t wait to see a picture of her wearing them. What do you think?

Teddy Bear cot quilt with matching beanie set

I recently added a teddy bear cot blanket with a matching beanie and ballet shoe set.  This is something I have been meaning to do for a while and with the cooler weather coming I thought it was about time I put it together.

I just love the paw prints on the bottom of the ballet shoes, just to stinking cute if you ask me lol.

The panel is back with coordinating fabric with a layer of quilters batting in the middle.

This is the first of many blanket sets to come.  I already have a older girls set coming and currently trying to make up my mind what do do first for boys so stay tuned.  Don’t forget you can follow me on instagram and twitter for updates.  Or sign up for my newsletter.

What’s New!!!!!

Hello, hope you all survived the Easter weekend and didn’t get to much of a sore tummy from eating all that yummy chocolate.  Just a little update on what has been happening with the Bits & Bobs 4 Bubs.

My nappy wallets seem to be very popular over at the Etsy Store and I have added 3 more to the store:

yellow blue flower nappy wallet 2

orange tartan nappy wallet white orange flower nappy wallet 2

And I have been working on some new ideas.  The first is a nappy wallet that will carry the large packets of wipes as not everyone uses the huggies nappy wipe containers.  I am trying my hand at alittle bunting with crochet edges and I am looking at making blankets with matching beanie and booties.
